Dr. Samuel Webster

BSc PhD FHEA
Senior Lecturer in Anatomy & Embryology,

“Teaching is my excuse to keep learning more anatomy and physiology. Making videos every week is a selfish endeavor.” – Dr. Samuel Webster

For many of us, anatomy wasn’t just learned in lecture halls – it was brought to life through a familiar voice on YouTube, a teacher who made even the most complex structures feel approachable. For the second time at HEART, something incredible is happening: Dr. Samuel Webster won’t be just on your screen – he will be right in front of you.

Have you ever wondered how true connection can be built when learning and healing happen through a screen? Dr. Webster’s speech entitled “Reaching the Hearts Behind Screens” explores how educators and doctors can foster genuine relationships with students and patients in the digital age, ensuring that knowledge and empathy transcend virtual space.

Dr. Webster’s journey into anatomy began with a pivotal moment in secondary school when a biology teacher recognised his potential and guided him toward an Anatomical Sciences BSc. Unknowingly, this was the first step in a gambit of a PhD in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology, a career in cartilage research, and ultimately, an unexpected but fulfilling turn towards anatomy education.

Leading the anatomy teaching at Swansea University Medical School, he brings his passion for teaching to future doctors through the Graduate Entry Medicine Programme and beyond. Furthermore, through his widely shared YouTube videos and e-learning resources, he helps students worldwide.

In queening the pawn, we celebrate the people who help us cross to the other side of the board. Dr. Webster has become part of the HEART family, and we can’t wait to welcome him back – a reminder that the right connection doesn’t only change the game; it changes us.
